[8/24/2012]

2k AdventureTours is looking to sign up restaurants for next season's dinner paddles. The Friday Fish Fry Paddle has been a lot of fun and we are going to expand the program. Our goal is sign up additional restaurants on nearby waterways. The restaurant would offer a paddle/dinner special and 2K will supply the kayaks. If you have a favorite restaurant and want to paddle, let them know!

In the meantime join us on Friday evenings at The Marina on Silver Lake for our fish fry paddle.

Pyranha Fusion River Tour

Congratulations to Andrew who was able to pick up his new Pyranha Fusion kayak today. He has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this very cool hybrid river kayak. The color is awesome!

No doubt Andrew will have a great time on the Flambeau with this very cool kayak from Pyranha.

As the name suggests, the Pyranha Fusion is a cross-over kayak which allows the paddler to enjoy two great areas of paddle sport, white water and touring.

Super stable, fast and easy to paddle, the Fusion gives you the freedom to choose from some fun whitewater or checking out some estuaries or a sheltered bay.

The tried and tested Pyranha skeg system adds a great feature allowing you to track in a straight line and the drag reducing skeg box allows the water to flow straight out of the stern of the kayak.

[5/29/2012]

Nippersink Lunch Paddle

Summer arrived on Sunday as we paddled in 95 degree tempatures on the Nippersink. What a busy place with the great weather and the recent rains.

The river was crowded in certain parts, especially the landings.  Only 50 miles from Chicago, the Nippersink offers a great "Getaway" from the bustle of the city.

Our Nippersink  trip starts at Keystone Landing and ends at the landing in Spring Grove. We stop for lunch at Pioneer Landing (3 hours). The total time of the trip is approximately 5-6 hours. Plan on bringing watershoes, sun block and a hat.

The cost is $69.00 per person and includes, guide, lunch and rental kayak.

Call 815.862.1400 to make your reservation.

20% discount if you have your own kayak.

LOW ANGLE & HIGH ANGLE

In sea kayak touring there are two common, yet very different, paddling styles, Low Angle and High Angle. These styles correlate to the angle of the shaft in relation to the surface of the water.

Low Angle is the most common paddling style. It is a more relaxed touring style and relaxed cadence. Our Low Angle designs have longer and narrower blades designed to pull through each stroke with the right amount of surface area for good power while maintaining a smooth forward stroke.

High Angle paddling is typically a more aggressive style of paddling with a faster cadence and a larger variety of strokes being used on each paddle outing.

Our high angle designs have short wide blades for a powerful catch and stroke with a slight dihedral for smooth linking strokes. High Angle designs work best when used with shorter paddle lengths of 205cm - 215cm. The combination of shorter paddle length and a shorter wide blade allows the right amount of balanced blade area to enter the water sooner, supporting a faster cadence, without having to over extend the upper arm.

Watch the Intrigue Video Here!

The Intrigue is a departure from Seaward’s familiar focus, yet has all the hallmarks of Seaward's innovative design. This recreational kayak is made from thermo-formed ABS plastic and features a polycarbonate view panel in the hull. It’s built with Seaward's minute attention to detail and exemplifies the company’s reputation for quality and impressive functionality.

Designed as the perfect gunk-hole kayak while at anchor, we even put the drink holder above the window so you can put a flashlight there instead and attract all those little fishies while seeing the truly beautiful colours beneath the water.

Kayaking Lessons
[3/22/2012]

Kayak Lessons

Want to put your toe in the water and see if you'll like kayaking? You'll learn how to paddle a kayak without developing bad habits or taking unnecessary risks. Our students will tell you, "kayaking is more fun once you've overcome the fear of capsizing and learned how to get back in a kayak from deep water". Those are a few of the skills you learn in our rescue technique kayak course. Our ACA Certified instructors are patient and well trained to help students work through their anxieties about getting out of an upside down kayak. We'll also get you started on the path to an efficient forward stroke and show you how to turn, steer a straight course, and we'll cover how and when to use rudders and skegs.

2K Adventure offers ACA certification classes as well as basic kayak classes. Group lessons or private lessons are available.

Review:

Submitted by: sonicView Profile Send Email - Rating: 9 of 10

"

"I love this boat! This is the boat that I had hoped the Dagger Approach would be. This is the best crossover boat on the market if you want WW ability. It has lots of rocker unlike my Approach. It's reminiscent of a WW boat of days of yore, only much better. Better harder plastic, modern out-fitting and a hull that is really 3 configurations. In the Bow it is a very shallow V to divide the water when under way and to give some tracking stability. Mid ship is a narrow semi-flat hull for fast turning and surfing and the Stern is a somewhat flat displacement hull with rounded edges similar to a play/river runner for good carving and little grabbyness. Then you drop the skeg and it tracks very well.

Now I have only had this out on class 2 so far, but it is now my go to boat for those conditions. It has a feel reminiscent of my H3, but without grabby edges. On bunny waves it is a carving fiend and it punches through and over the medium waves I have put it through so far. There might be some comparison to Dagger's Green Boat, but I have never paddled that boat. "

TIKI TUESDAY PADDLE
[7/9/2010]

Friday July 9, 2010

A group of paddlers met at 2K Adventure Gear this week and put together two great paddles. They will take place on Lake Elizabeth and Silver Lake. More exciting paddles will be posted on a regular basis. Everyone is encouraged to bring your boat and join us at any time on the following paddling trips.

"TIKI TUESDAY"

This paddle will take place each month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM

We will paddle from the Tiki Bar located on Lake Elizabeth where the old Mad Dans restaurant was located. After our paddle the Tiki Bar is open to sell drinks and food with seating indoors and outdoors.

In July we will be paddling on the 13th and 27th of the month. You can park your car and unload your kayaks across the street from the Tiki Bar thus avoiding the $7 launch fee.

"SILVER SUNDAY BREAKFAST PADDLE"

The Sunday paddles are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. This month we are doing the paddle on the 18th. We will launch at 7:00AM from the Marina located on the south side of the lake. (Silver Lake Road, County F) Please park in the gravel lot on the east side of the Marina.

The Marina serves breakfast starting at 8 AM at tables located right on the water. Silver Lake is a very clear and shallow (in most places) lake and excellent place to practice your paddling skill. The Lake has a four-mile perimeter and is exceptionally clear.

Monday Morning on the Fox River!
[7/4/2010]

Just a reminder to everyone that we are meeting at Riverside Park in Burlington, Wisconsin, Monday morning at 8AM. We will paddle down the Fox River to Silver Lake. The pullout site will be at the bridge on County F, Silver Lake.

Riverside Park is on Congress St at the Rtoute 36/11 junction. The park is where we will launch. If anyone can make plans to pair up and leave a vehicle at Silver Lake landing it would be appreciated.

This will be a 5-6 hour paddle so be prepared to bring water, sunscreen, a hat and a sandwich. Please bring your kayaks/canoes and be ready to go at 8AM.

Thanks and we will see you tomorrow.

Paddle Night Planning
[6/30/2010]

Monthly Paddle Calendar

Hello,
We had a great time doing the Full Moon Paddle on Lake Geneva last Saturday night. We left Big Foot Beach State Park at about 8:45 and paddled until 10:45pm. There were no boats on the lake except for an occasional tour boat. The weather was great but the moon was hidden by cloud cover. It was a lot of fun.
Our next paddle is scheduled for Monday July 5 on the Fox River from Burlington to Silver Lake, Wisconsin.
We want to extend an invitation to all of you to come to the store on Tuesday, July 6 at 6:30 PM. The purpose of the invitation is to put together a schedule for the remainder of the year for various paddling outings. I am sure each of you has your own favorite paddling destination and we are looking for new places and times to paddle.
I am hoping to schedule weekly paddles including but not limited to:
·         Friday Night Pub &Paddle, Twin Lakes, the old Mad Dan’s location
·         Sunday Morning Breakfast Paddle, Silver Lake, breakfast on the water at the Marina Grill
·         Weeknight Paddle
·         Saturday Morning  Java Paddle
·         Overnight Trips
All of your ideas will be welcomed. Once we schedule these events we can post them online and via the newsletter. I encourage everyone to invite friends and family not only to this scheduling event but also to participate in all of our paddle outings.

Refreshments will be served Tuesday evening so I ask that if possible you RSVP via info@2kadventuregear.com

Thanks

Big Foot Beach State Park
1550 South Lake Shore Drive
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin 53147
Phone 262.248.2528
Camping Reservations 888.947.2757

We will be meeting at 8:30 this Saturday night to do a “FULL MOON PADDLE” on Lake Geneva.
The launch will be about 9:15 from the beach across from the state park. You can park in the lot near the ranger booth at the entrance to the park. The beach is about 150 yards from the parking lot. There is an entry fee of $7 for Wisconsin residents and $10 for non-residents unless you have an annual parking sticker for the state parks of Wisconsin.
Make sure you bring a light with the rest of your gear. Glow sticks, flashlight or hat lights will help other boaters see us.
The paddle will last a few hours at a leisurely pace.
Please send a note to info@2kadventuregear.com by noon Saturday if you plan on attending the paddle.
We look forward to a great night on the lake and it looks like there is only a 30% chance of rain at this time.
Backpacking Breakfast Recipes
[6/16/2010]

We are getting ready for a long weekend hike in the Upper Penninsula over the July 10 weekend. I started  looking around for some new camping and backpacking recipes and found the following. If you have any awesome recipes send them to us at info@2kAdventureGear.com . We can post them and give you the credit!!!

Cherry Almond Oatmeal
· 1 packet instant oatmeal
· 2 Tbsp dried cherries
· 1 Tbsp slivered almonds
· 1 Tbsp powdered milk
· 1 tsp brown sugar
At home: combine everything in a freezer zip lock bag.
In camp: add 2/3 cup boiling water to oatmeal (or more if you like a thinner cereal)
Makes 1 serving

Chocolate Banana Oatmeal
· 1/3 cup instant oatmeal
· 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
· 2 Tbsp powdered milk
· 2 tsp brown sugar
· 1/4 cup freeze-dried bananas
· Chocolate cookies, crumbled (optional)
At home: combine everything except the cookies into a zip lock bag. If you are bringing the cookies, package them separately.
In camp: bring 1 cup of water to a boil, add the oatmeal mix and stir. Simmer until the oatmeal is cooked through. Serve topped with the cookies.
Makes 1 serving
Note: Don't try this with regular dried bananas, they are too hard. Look for the freeze-dried ones or in the cereal aisle as 'cereal toppers.' You can also try the same thing with freeze dried strawberries or raspberries.

Trail Pancakes
· 1 cup Biscuit mix
· 1 Tbsp dry milk
· 1 Tbsp sugar
· 2/3 cup water
· 1 Tbsp squeeze margarine
At home: add mix, milk, and sugar into a quart size zip lock bag. Seal and shake well.
In camp: add water and margarine to bag, seal and squish bag with hands to mix and remove air and lumps. Cut hole in the corner of the bag and squeeze onto a hot pan. Cook until bubbles form, flip, and cook till they are golden brown!
Makes approx. 6 pancakes
Note: Instead of squeeze margarine, you may substitute vegetable oil. If you do, keep 1 Tbsp of oil in a separate container and pour onto pan before cooking pancakes.

Strawberry Sensation
· 1 cup Strawberry Frosted Mini-Wheats
· 1/2 cup dried strawberries
· 1/4 cup yogurt covered raisins
· 1/4 cup chocolate chips, milk or dark
At home: combine all ingredients into zip lock bag.
In camp: eat as breakfast or a snack.
Makes 1 serving

Week night bike ride in Richmond, IL!
[6/3/2010]

We are staking out a 20 mile route tonight. The idea is to have one night a week that we can get in a ride leaving from the store at about 6:30 PM. We like wednesday. What about you?

We hope to develop a few routes like the fire department used in their 50 mile ride. If anyone has any suggestions on a great bicycle route crossing from Illinois into Wisconsin let us know at info@2kadventuregear.com

I hear the boy scouts in Richmond and in McHenry County need to have a third party sign off on a 50 mile bike ride for a merit badge. We can set up that ride from our shop. If you are in scouts and need that ride let us know.

It’s a great day- get outdoors and ride, hike or paddle.

Sunday Morning Paddle Trips
[5/19/2010]

2K Adventure Gear has seen a lot of great people come through the doors the last few weeks and their stories are fascinating. The customers are honestly making this endeavor a great experience.

A few things that I have learned from our customers are as follows;

  • There are a lot of residents in the area that hike, paddle kayaks and canoes, snowshoe, bike and cross country ski.
  • The majority of these people want to become more active in outdoor activities.
  • They prefer to do these activities in the company of other people participating in local tours.
  • Have problems solving the logistics of moving vehicles when paddling rivers.
  • Most are beginner to intermediate in their skills but are eager to learn more and expand their horizons to include overnight paddling trips.

We want to act as a “clearing house” for our customers who are seeking to join other like minded people enjoying outdoor activities including backpack trips, kayak trips, canoeing the boundary waters or merely camping close to home. Soon there will be a monthly events calendar posted in the store as well as on the website highlighting local events that everyone can participate in. Participants must supply their own gear at this time; however we hope to have kayaks for rent in the near future.

Coming this Sunday (May 23) we will be paddling Silver Lake in Silver Lake, Wisconsin. Everyone who is reading this is invited to join us at the public launch located north of town on Cogswell St. before 8:00 AM for coffee and donuts before we launch.

The lake is very clear and shallow in most spots. It is approximately 4 miles around the lake and is typically calm in the morning hours.

The weather is expected to be great. This is the perfect time to get that boat out of storage and head for the lake. Our goal is meet new friends and have a great time doing these close-to-home kayak day tours.

We hope you can join us. Please feel free to send an email to info@2KAdventureGear.com telling us how many will be participating or merely show up.

Don't Go It Alone!
[5/12/2010]

2K Adventure Gear has been open about a month now and I am encouraged by how many people have come in to express their delight in having a store like this in the area. There seems to be quite a large amount of people in the immediate area that enjoy hiking, paddling, camping, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. We are pleased to be able quality products to these, our customers.

The second floor is not open yet but we expect to have that finished soon. It is great space with exposed brick walls, wooden floors and lots of great window space. We will use the space to display boats, tents and trailers. There seems to be a need for some instruction/discussion groups on various subjects such as how to pack for a paddle trip, where to go, how to organize your backpack and a lot of other topics.

2K wants to start hosting some of these events and we are asking that you tell us what sparks your interests or fills your needs. I would love to have a slide show and presentation on going to the Boundary Waters. This might include where to go, what to expect and how to pack.

Please contact us at info@2kAdventureGear.com with your suggestions so we can get them on our calendar. If the weather should decide to cooperate, we will kick off our paddle days May 23. Tentative location is Silver Lake at this time. Other paddles will include Lake Geneva, Lake Como, Fox River (above Wilmot), the Des Plaines and an overnight trip on the Wisconsin.

We can't wait to hear from you............

Welcome to 2K Adventure Gear!
[5/4/2010]

Welcome everyone to 2K Adventure Gear. It took some time but we are now up and running on the internet. I want to thank everyone for their patience while the website was being developed. The website, like our retail location, is growing and new things are being added on a daily basis. If you see something that needs to addressed by our staff or just want to make a recommendation feel free to contact us at info@2kadventuregear.com and we will respond to your email.

This is a very exciting time as we get ready for summer and all the wonderful activities associated with warmer weather. We see caravans of cars and trucks carrying canoes, kayaks and bikes passing the store all day. We are working hard to put together our calendar of events on a monthly basis which will include kayaking, canoeing, hiking and biking. Our store is located in a great area in northern Illinois and very close to numerous waterways and state parks in both Illinois and Wisconsin. Our goal is to encourage people to get out and enjoy these areas for there is so much to see and do.

Our pledge to you our customers is to make you our priority and give you the service that you expect. Thank you for visiting our site and we welcome the opportunity to be the "basecamp for your outdoor needs."
